I'm the creator behind Stained Hands, where I show people how to turn a few simple supplies and a little time into something that says "I thought about you." My series "Cute Ways to Say I Love You" has been watched more than 150 million times on TikTok, which is a number I'm still getting used to typing. I also wrote a craft book, and I run Crafty Hands Club, a monthly craft membership that puts everything you need to make something into your mailbox.

Why I Believe Effort Is Love
I believe love takes effort, and I would argue that love itself is effort. Anyone can buy a gift. Making one means you kept a person in your head for an hour, picked the colors, fixed the mistake, and finished it anyway. That time is what they feel when they open it.
You don't need to be good at art for this to work. A wobbly heart drawn by someone who cared says more than a perfect one made by a machine.
Making things by hand is also how I work through what I'm feeling, the happy parts and the messy ones. That's why Stained Hands has crafts for falling in love and crafts for the end of it. Both deserve to be made with your own hands.
I'm firmly on the side of human-made creativity. AI can generate an image in a few seconds. I'd rather you spend an evening making something imperfect that only you could have made.
